ABPI appoints Director of Value and Access

The ABPI has appointed Paul Catchpole into the role of Director of Value and Access.

In his new role, Paul will drive forward the ABPI’s work to demonstrate the value of the industry and its medicines, and to improve access for patients to innovative medicines. He will be based at the ABPI’s offices in Whitehall.

Paul has 26 years of experience in healthcare, most recently as healthcare management director at Roche UK. He has been an active member of various ABPI working groups over a number of years and also been involved in the last two PPRS negotiations, influencing the design of patient access and flexible pricing schemes.

Alison Clough, Commercial and Communications Director at the ABPI, said: “We are delighted to be appointing, to such an important role, someone of Paul’s standing within the industry. He brings with him a wealth of experience.”

Paul said: “I am delighted to be taking up this role at such an important and challenging time for the pharmaceutical industry. The unprecedented economic pressures facing our healthcare system along with potential political changes means that the need has never been greater for the industry to be clear about all aspects of value that our medicines bring to patients and the NHS and how these can be evaluated.

“Providing greater and faster access for patients also remains a key challenge and an opportunity where innovative medicines can drive further quality and productivity improvements through strong partnership working with NHS organisations.”

Paul has previously held a number of management posts in the NHS and worked on a wide range of management consultancy assignments at PricewaterhouseCoopers across health, local government and pharmaceuticals.
