ABPI builds Scottish team

The ABPI has appointed an Operations Director in Scotland for the first time.

Sandra Auld joins the ABPI team in Edinburgh from the NHS Scottish Centre for Telehealth, where she is Service Development Manager.

Sandra, who originally trained as a nurse in general , children’s and critical care, has also worked as part of research teams at Edinburgh and Glasgow Universities and then as a Health Policy Manager, covering Scotland and Northern Ireland for two different medicines companies.

ABPI Scotland Director Andy Powrie-Smith said: “The new Scottish Operations Director role has been created to give ABPI Scotland more capacity to support members and take forward the Value, Innovation, Trust and Access imperatives of the ABPI. Central to the job will be supporting and continuing to inform Scottish healthcare, economic and education policies as the medicines industry plays its part in underpinning Scotland’s strong life sciences sector.

“Sandra brings a wealth of experience to the new role, coupled to her invaluable understanding of both the NHS and the medicines industry.”

Sandra said she is looking forward to the new challenge: “Scotland’s medicines sector is an important driver of the health and wealth of Scotland and the ABPI has a central role in providing a strong voice for the 11,000 people whose jobs rely on its continued success in Scotland.

“This is an exciting new role for me and also a continuation of the sort of work I have enjoyed so much in the NHS of creating and building partnerships, of finding ways for people to work together across boundaries for the sake of the best patient care, and of making sure policy and services are designed in the best way for the job.”
