Hospira has increased its number of board of directors after electing the experienced William G. Dempsey.

The former executive vice president of Abbott Laboratories brings strong management and diverse global experience from leadership positions held within the pharmaceutical industry.

Christopher B. Begley, Executive Chairman of Hospira, says Mr Dempsey’s “impressive track record” and his wealth of experience “makes him an excellent fit” for the board.

Mr Dempsey spent more than two decades at Abbott before retiring in 2007.

His appointment to the board increases the number of directors to 11, nine of whom are independent.
