UK’s first needle-free nasal adrenaline for anaphylaxis now available

A needle-free nasal adrenaline spray for emergency anaphylaxis treatment is now available for prescription in the UK.

The EURneffy® 2mg nasal adrenaline spray, which is portable and ready-to-use in emergencies is the UK’s first needle-free emergency anaphylaxis treatment for adults and children (≥30 kg) with life-threatening allergies.1

The spray offers a new pocket-sized alternative to adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs) for people living with severe allergies, including those with needle phobias or who need a more convenient option that they can rely on. EURneffy® has a longer shelf life and can withstand temperature changes better than AAIs,1,2 which has the potential to result in cost savings per day for the NHS.3

EURneffy® is a non-invasive treatment option that provides rapid absorption of adrenaline through the nose.1 Extensive clinical pharmacological data from the EURneffy® development programme, involving over 700 participants, has demonstrated the comparable effectiveness of EURneffy® 2 mg to AAIs across a broad range of patient scenarios,4 including when someone had cold or flu symptoms and significant nasal congestion.1,5

In the first analysis of real-world treatment outcomes in the United States, nearly 9 in 10 patients experiencing allergic reactions were successfully treated with a single dose of EURneffy®, and only 1 in 10 required a second dose.6
The outcomes are very similar to historic treatment response rates reported with adrenaline injections7 and support the real-world clinical effectiveness of EURneffy® in anaphylaxis.

According to new research from ALK, 88% of HCPs know patients or caregivers who have not been able to use their AAI in an emergency, even though it could have helped.8
HCPs think alternative adrenaline delivery methods could help treatment of anaphylaxis in the community, improving ease of use (45%), reducing anxiety (40%) and reducing hesitation in emergencies (34%).8

Due to differences in formulation, EURneffy® offers double the real-world shelf life of traditional AAIs (22 months and 11 months, respectively)3,9,10 and requires no special storage conditions,1 which could reduce the need for replacement devices by 32% per year.*3

ALK received approval for EURneffy® 2mg from the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in July 2025.1
It is indicated for the emergency treatment of allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) due to insect stings or bites, foods, medicinal products and other allergens, as well as idiopathic or exercise-induced anaphylaxis in adults and children who weigh 30kg or more.1 As with all adrenaline devices, it is recommended that two EURneffy® devices are carried to treat a potentially life-threatening emergency in case a second dose is required.1

Dr Shuaib Nasser, Consultant Allergist and Respiratory Physician and Clinical Lead for Allergy at Cambridge University Hospital NHS foundation Trust, said: “With EURneffy® now available for prescription, we can offer an alternative, needle-free method of adrenaline delivery that may be easier for patients and families to manage and administer. The ready-to-use and portable design may help address some of the practical and psychological barriers to consistently carrying and using adrenaline auto-injectors, especially needle anxiety. The pharmacological data show that EURneffy® achieves outcomes comparable to adrenaline auto-injectors, regardless of nasal congestion, leading to its approval here in the UK. What’s exciting is that we’re now also seeing the first real-world evidence, which should provide further assurance to prescribers of its interchangeability with adrenaline injection.”
